Celebrating The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee at Government House

On August 19, the grounds of Government House hosted a celebration of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years of service to the Commonwealth by The Queen. It was a day filled with family-friendly fun, with incredible performances featuring artists from cultural institutions throughout the city of Victoria, including Ballet Victoria, Pacific Opera Victoria, and the Victoria Conservatory of Music. Also on hand were balloon creations from Paul Kilshaw, a sweet-natured sheep representing 4-H, and the heart-swelling music of the bagpipes courtesy of Castle Cary Pipes and Drums.

Government House’s chef Aleks Kornat and team whipped up hundreds of cupcakes and pretzels, served alongside Platinum Jubilee-purple iced tea, cotton candy, and popcorn. The Friends of Government House Gardens Society showed off not only their handiwork in the surrounding gardens, but sold plants and flowers in support of their ongoing work as well.

Nearly 1000 people came by, with thanks to all who helped celebrate this remarkable anniversary!
