The Honourable Judith Guichon, 29th Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia, launched Sing Me A Song to promote music and community spirit across the province in honour of Canada’s 150th birthday celebrations in 2017. For 2018, musical groups of all ages and genres were invited to write and sing an original song in the lead up to 2021, the 150th anniversary of British Columbia’s entry into the Confederation. Groups are encouraged to write a song about what British Columbia means to them or their community.

Entries were scored on musicality, spirit and originality by a panel of musicians:

  • Louise Rose, piano and voice teacher at The Chwyl School of Contemporary Music at The Victoria Conservatory of Music, member of The Great American Song Book Trio
  • Maureen Archambault, musical director of the a cappella choir Bel Canto
  • Heather Pawsey, opera singer and artistic director of Astrolabe Musik Theatre
  • Brian Wismath, music director of Vox Humana Chamber Choir, Linden Singers of Victoria, Victoria Choral Society and Victoria Conservatory of Music Chorale
