Every year, the first Monday in August is marked as BC Day, a celebration of the people, places, and diverse cultures of the province of British Columbia. It’s an opportunity for British Columbians to get out and explore their home and learn more about the vibrant communities and beautiful wilderness that surrounds them.
In her role as Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia, the Honourable Janet Austin celebrates, inspires and connects British Columbians, while promoting the history and achievements of the province. She instills pride in the rich beauty of BC, as well as the accomplishments of the people of British Columbia, supporting their heritage, art and culture.
Through community visits and tours, Her Honour has met with British Columbians from all throughout the province. From the golden grasslands of the Chilcotin to the rocky shores of the Sunshine Coast to the rugged mountains and verdant woods of the Kootenays, Her Honour has been met with kindness, generosity and enthusiasm from British Columbians to share the best and brightest of their region. With her mandate in mind, the Honourable Janet Austin has had the privilege of visiting charming heritage sites, fascinating Indigenous cultural centres, and local businesses ranging in scale from small farm stands to acres of grapes at family-run wineries.
Throughout the month of August, in recognition of British Columbia and the people who make it so wonderful, the spaces and places visited by Her Honour throughout her term as Lieutenant Governor will be shared on social media, so that British Columbians and those visiting the province might be inspired to do the same.
